Where all the action is! The Big Screen will host the biggest podcasts, panels, and screenings of the festival all weekend. Gaze into the crystal ball and explore football’s future with David Goldblatt and Michael Cox, learn about the true impact of the Women’s World Cup, have a raucous time with the Alive and Kicking 90s Football Podcast team and join the Retro Football Shirt podcast in discussing your favourite kits. In the afternoons, the Big Screen will come into its own with screenings of State of Play, Bend It Like Beckham, Get Shirty, Next Goal Wins and of course, the FA Community Shield tie between Liverpool and Man City.
Like any good commentary team, the Commentary Box will play home to a brilliant mix of fact, opinion and emotion. Our diverse line-up of pundits, fans and writers will discuss some of the most interesting topics in football today, as well as those close to the hearts of many. learn about the media’s changing relationship with football fans, and discover how the matchday experience has changed completely for some.
Get your bibs on! The Training Ground will get you learning and creating - whether you want to make your own football zine with the Youth Club Archive and Photocopy Club, join our brilliant workshop on alternative careers for women in football, or help illustrate iconic moments in football history with our talented friends from Minute Books.
The Presser is your chance to get up close and personal with your football culture heroes. Hosting a series of talks on various subject as well as book signings at the adjoining Blackwell's Festival Book Shop, the Presser is your chance to meet Michael Calvin, Neal Heard, Daniel Geey and John Devlin, as well as hear authors such as David Goldblatt discuss their books!
The Junior Football Classroom - for kids and kidults alike! We have loads of brilliant activities for you all weekend with our friends who love using football to have fun while testing your mind! Our pals at the Football School will teach you about the world while we also have Ultimate Football Heroes bringing to life story behind your favourite football players like Harry Kane and Kelly Smith. And if you want to be shocked and amazed, there's Rebecca Stevens telling the true history behind her book, of brilliant women who used to play football in front of crowds of tens of thousands back in the 1920s!
Like any big club, we’ve got a decent haul to show you. To accompany our screening of the Admiral story, Get Shirty, we’re exhibiting more than a dozen original, iconic Admiral shirts and tracksuits.
We also asked 20 of our favourite artists to create a one-off response to the theme of “My First Football Memory.” We will be displaying these beautiful pieces at the festival and auctioning them off to raise funds for our Charity Partner, Sporting Memories Foundation. There’ll also be displays of photography, flags and other football culture ephemera around the festival for you to enjoy.
